All applicants, resident in Pakistan, whether they have submitted completed application or provisional, will be required to write the College Entrance Test or submit alternate scores as described below. The Entrance Test is an essential requirement of the Admission Process. The results of the Entrance Test make a very significant contribution towards the computation of the final merit of applicants. Higher the score in the Entrance test better are the prospects for selection. The Shifa College of Medicine would prefer all applicants to write the Entrance Test administered by this college. However, those who are unable to meet this appointment, can use the following alternate option :
Shifa Entrance Test:
It will be administered at the college premises in Islamabad on Sunday at 09:00 PST, August, 17, 2008 and Sunday at 09:00 PST, August, 24, 2008. There is one session of the Test in a year. It is a 3-hour test based on multiple-choice format. Subjects included are biology, chemistry, physics, English comprehension, and applied mathematics (of secondary school level). A specimen of the test is given in college prospectus.
All applicants will receive an Entrance Test Ticket with necessary instructions. Entrance to the test will not be allowed without this ticket.
Results of the Entrance Tests would be available on the College website within days of the test. Applicants would, however, be informed of results by mail in
2 weeks after the test.
Alternate Option:
As an alternate the College may accept one of the following options:
SAT II in Biology, Chemistry and Physics (Minimum score requirement is 650 each in two subjects)
MCAT (Minimum score requirement is 24)
AP (Advance Placement ) in Biology, Chemistry and Physics (Minimum score requirement is 4 in each subject)
SAT II, MCAT & AP scores should not be more than 3 calendar years old.
(Without the Entrance Test or its alternative, an application will remain incomplete and will not be processed for admission).
Interviews
Interviews with the faculty of the college form a part of the evaluation for selection. Interviews are conducted by appointment.
Each applicant will meet with two interviewers for 15-20 minutes. The purpose of the interviews is to meet a living soul, as opposed to an application on paper, and appreciate that personality attributes, which one would like to see in a caring doctor with empathy and understanding.
Applicants are cautioned that interviews although held towards the tail end of the admission process, are only a component of the whole process and contribute a small weightage to the cumulative merit. Interviews, as such, do not carry veto power.
Interviews are conducted by appointment after the Entrance Test.
