The Section of Biochemistry is actively engaged in teaching first and second year MBBS students. The courses offered are distributed in forst and second year in accordance with the syllabus proposed by Higher Education Commission, Pakistan Medical and Dental Council and the Bahria University. Each academic year is divided into three terms. Different modes of instruction e.g. lectures, small groups, tutorials, student seminars, lab sessions are utilized to impart the knowledge of the principles of Biochemistry and their applications in medicine.
Occasionally the Section is also required to teach the students of BScN program offered by the Shifa College of Nursing.
Apart from teaching the medical and nursing students, the Section is in the process of initiating graduate program in Biochemistry; our proposed MPhil and PhD programs have been approved by Bahria University. Although we don't presently offer graduate studies in our section, Dr. Raheel Qamar is actively supervising a number of graduate students and our PCR lab is routinely utilized by these students who are enrolled somewhere else.
