The Section of Surgery at Shifa College of Medicine is committed to serve the humanity by improving health and quality of life. Our aim is to educate competent, caring practitioners, educators and scientists for the nation and beyond and be a leader in patient care, investigative research, and surgical education.
Currently the faculty at Department of Surgery is participating in teaching, research and clinical activities at Shifa College and its major affiliated hospitals. Medical students are trained annually in didactic courses and on clinical rotations. We are using multiple learning strategies including interactive lectures, small group sessions, tutorials, PBL sessions. The students get a change to come to the wards and operating rooms early in their medical careers.
As clinicians, our surgeons deliver cutting-edge patient care within six divisions – General Surgery, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Pediatric Surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Neurosurgery and Urological Surgery – which also serve as referral centers for their respective specialties. In performing procedures ranging from coronary artery bypass to kidney transplantation and cancer surgery, our surgeons provide high-quality, compassionate care. The clinical experience is remarkable in the diversity of cases. Surgical technique is taught not only through the operative experience, but also in hands-on skills sessions in our Skills Laboratory. Students are actively involved in research throughout their training The weekly Clinico-pathological conference and Morbidity and Mortality meetings features active participation of colleagues from gastroenterology, radiology, pathology, medical and radiation oncology, and Minimally Invasive Surgery thus enhancing the multidisciplinary perspective that brings together surgeons, gastroenterologists, radiologists, and oncologists to provide contemporary, comprehensive care for patients with benign and malignant gastrointestinal disease.
