Soul and Body Rejuvenation Event (SABR)

Soul and Body Rejuvenation Event (SABR)

Soul and Body Rejuvenation event was conducted in Shifa College of Medicine (SCM) at Lecture Hall-1 on Sunday, May 14, 2017. It was a collaborative event of Shifa International Hospital (SIH) and Shifa College of Medicine. This was part of a Research project INCREDIBLE (Initiative for Cardiovascular Risk Reduction through Diet, Behavioral, Life style modification and Exercise). The event was organized by Dr Afrose Liaquat, Assistant Professor Biochemistry, SCM and Dr Saeed Ullah Shah, Consultant Cardiologist SIH. The main objectives were:

  • To monitor the effects of positive encouragement and guidance on the cardio-metabolic risk factors.
  • To explore the beneficial effects of community support during the month of Ramadan on cardio-metabolic risk factors.

The pre-registered participants under-went a free of cost comprehensive cardiovascular risk assessment including Blood pressure, Body mass Index, Blood glucose, Total Cholesterol, Waist to Hip ratio and Q-risk Score. The participants were advised on the prevention of blood pressure, diabetes, obesity and smoking along-with spiritual motivation through interactive sessions by renowned speakers. Students at SCM as well as the instructors took active participation in the event. This project not only educated the community on the cardiovascular risk prevention but also motivated the students for research in preventive medicine.

Post Ramzan follow-up of registered participants yielded extremely heartening results, with many citing the intervention and conference participation as a positive influence on their daily life. The hope is to continue such research and educational studies in future under the umbrella of Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University.
